About mimi45rog

My name is Mimi, I'm 46 years old, married with three kids. My favourite hobbies are cross-stitching and cake-decorating.

It´s been a long long time…

Hi there,

I wish everybody a happy new year!

I know I haven´t been here in a long time, but one of my new years resolutions was that I want to write more regularly.

Last time, I showed you the unfinished piece my daughter and me had started for my mum. I am glad to tell you that we finished it in time and we even got it framed ready for her birthday.

She really loves it and it has taken pride of place in her dining room. And I must say it looks stunning 🙂

So it was all worth it in the end. Not that I ever doubted that for a minute. 😉

I hope I will stick to my promise to keep this blog going a bit more regularly. Hopefully see you again soon!

And another project…

I have told you about the birthday-present for my mum, that my daughter and I have been working on over the last couple of months, and I have posted some pictures  before as well.

Well, I still haven´t finished it, but it is getting there slowly. My daughter has nearly finished all of her bits, she only has to do a bit of touching up on the writing, but I still have to finish my last motif.

The main problem is that when I go swimming twice a week, my eyes are always really bloodshot and burning,so stitching isn´t really possible. But the good news is that I have ordered myself a pair of swimming goggles, with the proper optical lenses, so, from next week my eyes will be well protected and I can still see where I am going in the pool 😉

wp-image-1613438535jpg.jpgThis is one of the motifs my daughter has worked, I really love it  and I think she did very well 🙂wp-image-693995799jpg.jpgAnd this is my work so far, as you can see there is still a lot to be done… But I will definitely finish it in time for my mums birthday 🙂

wp-image-1394193312jpg.jpgMy daughter actually did the initials of my mum´s name as well. not to mention the poem that is worked in the middle. I couldn´t take a picture of the whole thing yet, but as soon as it is finished I will do!

As you will probably be able to see, we are quite new to this particular kind of needlework, it is pretty much trial and error, but I think we are doing pretty well considering.

So, hopefully I will be able to finish it in plenty of time, because I will have to wash it and frame it myself as well, and that is not as easy as it sounds either….

Finished project

Well, sorry I haven´t been writing the last couple of weeks, I just didn´t feel like it and was busy doing other things.

Just a quick update: So far I have lost 42 kg of weight, my operated knee is doing reasonably well considering it has been only 10 weeks since the operation.

I have been trying to do as much exercise as possible, but the left knee keeps playing up, I can hardly walk more then 5 minutes before it stiffens up, so I avoid walking longer distances whenever possible. But I go swimming twice a week, that is fun and good for the knees.

So, as promised, I will show you what became of the project I was doing from my online class:

wp-image-514523991jpg.jpg It still needs a frame, but so far I haven´t gotten round to buying one. I still think it looks pretty good, and it was a lot of fun to do.

Now I am back working on my mum´s birthday present, not much more time to finish it until her birthday on September 29th.  I probably won´t be writing much until then, and even afterwards, I most likely will be too busy, because my second piece for the online course is already waiting to be stitched… I will show you the finished project as soon as it is done of course 🙂

I finished the last three squares of my project last weekend. Now all that is left to do is work a kind of frame around it to make them stand out a bit better.

I must say I really enjoyed working on this and have ordered the materials for the next part of the course last night. I can´t wait for it to turn up. The threads are really beautiful and I have decided to use different colours this time and the fabric will be very different and unusual as well.

Obviously I will show you the finished piece hopefully in a couple of days, but it will take me a while to finish it first.

Apart from this I have been quite busy trying to excersize every day. I have already been swimming this morning, you wouldn´t believe how crowded a swimming pool can be at 6.30 in the morning! But never mind, I finished 40 laps in just under an hour, I can´t believe how slow I am…

And now for something completely different….

and no, it has nothing to do with Monty Python 😉

As I may have mentioned before ( pretty sure I have, but am just too lazy to check and make sure) I have been thinking about taking an online course for embroidery and needlework.

Last month, just before I had my surgery, I had actually booked the course, and I actually got all the material just in time as well. So, when I was in the Reha-clinic, I had a bit of time to start looking at the different stitches, and I even tried a couple of them. Each of the different moduls ( there are 7), explains different stitches and each of them is worked on different fabrics. You also work with different kinds of threads.

So, each stitch is worked in a different thread, from silks to crewel wool and it is faczinating what a difference  that makes.

As you can see in the pictures, most “stitch groups ” contains 2 or more individual Stitches to make them complete, some as many as 8, so you get a lot of different textures, which comes useful when you use them in pictures. As I am only practicing them for now, all I have done is fill squares on a piece of canvas, so in the end it becomes sort of a stitch library if you want.

So far, I have finished 9 of the 12 individual stitches, and I guess I will finish the last 3 by the weekend.

I really love the colours and the shine of the threads, and I can´t wait for the next part of the course 🙂

Take care my friends

The trials and tribulations of….

just a few quick words to let you know what´s going on.

I´ve been home for 3 days now, and as great as it is, it has been a bit of a struggle do get back into a routine.

I came home on tuesday morning and after cooking dinner first I had to see my gp. to let him know what had been going on, hand in all the paperwork from the hospital and the reha- clinic and get a prescription for physio.

Next I went to the pysio-therapist, who told me that they are booked solid, especially because the summer holidays start next week and a few of the therapists are on holiday. But I managed to get two appointments for next week and we will have to see from there.

Than I had to make a few phone-calls to see if there is any reha- sports groups in the area, and the one I found is booked out as well. It is really frustrating if you want to do something and people tell you that there is nothing they can do to help you. But I will keep trying, I have to do this so I can get fit for my second surgery.

The doctor in the clinic told me that I should wait at least 6 months before I even consider having the second knee done. Even though I was hoping to have it done a lot sooner, I decided that I will probably take his advice and rather try to lose some more weight until the end of the year, that would make everything so much easier. So far I have lost 34,6kg!!

I can´t believe that I have managed to lose so much weight in just about 6 months!

Admittedly the last 5 weeks where a bit slow, but that was due to hospital food, and lack of mobility, so now I am back on my own diet, I do my own cooking again, and that will help a lot. As you can see, I am still determined to do this!!!

Good night folks

I’m still alive!😀

Sorry I have been quiet for the last couple of weeks, but I’ve had my knee surgery on the third of june and am now at a reha-clinic having lots of physio. Because of that, I’m really busy and at night quite exhausted and in pain but it’s getting better every day 😀.

I wouldn’t even have minded doing some writing, but there is no internet connection in the rooms, so I would have to sit in the lobby with my laptop and I didn’t like that idea, since there is no proper tables and balancing the hot laptop on my freshly operated knee is not very appealing. So just a quick resumee of the last 22  days: surgery went really well, 20160607_074405.jpgthis was about 3 days after the surgery.

Stitches have been removed 8 days ago and it looks really great.

20160625_132217.jpgI took this one today 😊.

Mobility is good, I can put full weight on it and I frequently walk stairs as well to get it well excercized. Obviously there has been quite a bit of muscle waistage due to the lack of excercise in the last couple of months, but I am working hard to build them up and strengthen them. The really difficult part is that the muscles are a lot shorter than they should be. And it is quite painful to get them to stretch so I can properly straighten the leg again. But I can see improvement every day and that is the important thing. I can go swimming every day and if the weather allowes it I go for a walk.

We had awfully hot weather the last couple of days and that didn’t make it any easier, but that didn’t stop me. 😀

I did it again…  well actually I didn´t, write I mean.

I have been really preoccupied with my operation coming close and still trying to lose a bit of weight before I go into hospital… not very successfully I might add.

My weight is stubbornly moving up and down about 1 kg for the last 10 days, and it is p….ng me off severely I can tell you!!

But at least it isn´t going up any further, that´s one good thing.

Otherwise, I have not been very busy, no cross-stitch or anything else productive. I seem to have developed  an allergy, I reckon it is pollen, so I am constantly sneezing, my eyes are sore and my nose is running all the time. It is really annoying, so it looks like I have to see another doctor some time in the future. I tried some allergy tablets but all they do is knock me out, not reducing any of the symptoms. So that´s no good at all… I can´t believe this is happening, I had an allergy-test about three years ago, and I was fine, so where the hell is this coming from all of a sudden?!

I just hope it doesn´t cause any problem with the op, that would be all I need…

A couple of days ago I decided to take a photo of myself again, I took one in march but I will not show that, that is just for comparison in the future, when I will hopefully havelost some more weight. I really didn´t know if I wanted to post this, but in the end I thought what the hell, I might as well 😉

I never really liked having my foto taken, even as a child, but these days it is even worse, I try to avoid cameras wherever I can, and that is not easy, because my mum loves to take pictures wherever we are.

So there you are, that´s me, and now you can see why I have to lose so much weight.

I hope that it will become easier after the op, when I can walk a bit better and hopefully be able to excersize a bit more. I am really looking forward to that, though I was never really one to enjoy sports, but I quite liked going to the gym. I actually would love to do that again…

So, keep your fingers crossed for me, that everything goes as planned, that way I might be able to do all the things I have wanted to do for a long time 🙂

Good night

Well folks,

what do you know, I´ve got a date for my operation!!!

I had an appointment at a different hospital this morning, and the doctor there was really nice. He took one look at my x-rays and had a quick look at my knee and the next question was”So when do you want to have the op?”

My answer obviously being:” As soon as possible”, he looked at his schedule and said:        ” will next week do?”

I was a bit shocked to be honest, but now I am really happy. And I am actually glad that I waited the 2months before I went to see another doctor, I feel so much better now, than I did in March, a lot stronger and more confident, and that can make a whole lot of difference with the recovery. Losing 30kg certainly doesn´t hurt either.

I hope I will be up and about in no time, especially because I should be able to use the leg straight after the op. I will be starting physio straight away and will be leaving the hospital after about 10 days if everything goes well. Then I will hopefully go to a reha-clinic, for a couple of weeks, to learn how to exercize with the new knee and learn to walk with it properly.

God, I will probably not sleep very well for the next week or so, lol, I am always a nervous wreck before things like this…

But who cares, I´m sure it will all go well.

Good night folks
