And another project…

I have told you about the birthday-present for my mum, that my daughter and I have been working on over the last couple of months, and I have posted some pictures  before as well.

Well, I still haven´t finished it, but it is getting there slowly. My daughter has nearly finished all of her bits, she only has to do a bit of touching up on the writing, but I still have to finish my last motif.

The main problem is that when I go swimming twice a week, my eyes are always really bloodshot and burning,so stitching isn´t really possible. But the good news is that I have ordered myself a pair of swimming goggles, with the proper optical lenses, so, from next week my eyes will be well protected and I can still see where I am going in the pool 😉

wp-image-1613438535jpg.jpgThis is one of the motifs my daughter has worked, I really love it  and I think she did very well 🙂wp-image-693995799jpg.jpgAnd this is my work so far, as you can see there is still a lot to be done… But I will definitely finish it in time for my mums birthday 🙂

wp-image-1394193312jpg.jpgMy daughter actually did the initials of my mum´s name as well. not to mention the poem that is worked in the middle. I couldn´t take a picture of the whole thing yet, but as soon as it is finished I will do!

As you will probably be able to see, we are quite new to this particular kind of needlework, it is pretty much trial and error, but I think we are doing pretty well considering.

So, hopefully I will be able to finish it in plenty of time, because I will have to wash it and frame it myself as well, and that is not as easy as it sounds either….

Finished project

Well, sorry I haven´t been writing the last couple of weeks, I just didn´t feel like it and was busy doing other things.

Just a quick update: So far I have lost 42 kg of weight, my operated knee is doing reasonably well considering it has been only 10 weeks since the operation.

I have been trying to do as much exercise as possible, but the left knee keeps playing up, I can hardly walk more then 5 minutes before it stiffens up, so I avoid walking longer distances whenever possible. But I go swimming twice a week, that is fun and good for the knees.

So, as promised, I will show you what became of the project I was doing from my online class:

wp-image-514523991jpg.jpg It still needs a frame, but so far I haven´t gotten round to buying one. I still think it looks pretty good, and it was a lot of fun to do.

Now I am back working on my mum´s birthday present, not much more time to finish it until her birthday on September 29th.  I probably won´t be writing much until then, and even afterwards, I most likely will be too busy, because my second piece for the online course is already waiting to be stitched… I will show you the finished project as soon as it is done of course 🙂

I finished the last three squares of my project last weekend. Now all that is left to do is work a kind of frame around it to make them stand out a bit better.

I must say I really enjoyed working on this and have ordered the materials for the next part of the course last night. I can´t wait for it to turn up. The threads are really beautiful and I have decided to use different colours this time and the fabric will be very different and unusual as well.

Obviously I will show you the finished piece hopefully in a couple of days, but it will take me a while to finish it first.

Apart from this I have been quite busy trying to excersize every day. I have already been swimming this morning, you wouldn´t believe how crowded a swimming pool can be at 6.30 in the morning! But never mind, I finished 40 laps in just under an hour, I can´t believe how slow I am…

And now for something completely different….

and no, it has nothing to do with Monty Python 😉

As I may have mentioned before ( pretty sure I have, but am just too lazy to check and make sure) I have been thinking about taking an online course for embroidery and needlework.

Last month, just before I had my surgery, I had actually booked the course, and I actually got all the material just in time as well. So, when I was in the Reha-clinic, I had a bit of time to start looking at the different stitches, and I even tried a couple of them. Each of the different moduls ( there are 7), explains different stitches and each of them is worked on different fabrics. You also work with different kinds of threads.

So, each stitch is worked in a different thread, from silks to crewel wool and it is faczinating what a difference  that makes.

As you can see in the pictures, most “stitch groups ” contains 2 or more individual Stitches to make them complete, some as many as 8, so you get a lot of different textures, which comes useful when you use them in pictures. As I am only practicing them for now, all I have done is fill squares on a piece of canvas, so in the end it becomes sort of a stitch library if you want.

So far, I have finished 9 of the 12 individual stitches, and I guess I will finish the last 3 by the weekend.

I really love the colours and the shine of the threads, and I can´t wait for the next part of the course 🙂

Take care my friends

The project

Hi Folks,

I promised that I would show off the whole project, and so here it is:

As you can see,(I hope 😉 ) it is a sampler with 4 different motifs and in the middle there is a gardener´s poem.

My daughter came up with the idea a couple of months ago, when she stumbled over the poem, and she thought it would be perfect for my mum who is an avid gardener.

She spends all her spare time in the garden, and can´t resist bying more flowers all the time, even though there is no room in the garden lol.

My daughter is doing the 2 pictures on the left, I am now starting on the second one on the right. We might still add my mum´s initials left and right, depends how long it will take us to finish everything else.

I just hope that my mum will like it, but I´m pretty sure she will….

Good night folks

Finished!! :D

I used the two bank-holidays to do a bit of needlework and managed to finish the first motif on the sampler we are doing for my mum 😀

That´s the kind of thing I will be doing over the next year in the course.

I hope I will be able to improve my technique and learn a couple of new stitches in the process. Though I like the way it has come out, I would definitely like to improve my work a lot.

There is so many different stitches, I´ve only used about 10 different stitches on this.

It is a lot of fun, but I don´t want to experiment too much on this, because I want it to turn out the best possible way.

Tomorrow I might start on the second motive. I might manage to take a picture of the whole thing, so you will be able to see how much my daughter has done as well.

Good night folks!

P.S.: Today I was really good, no eating unhealthy stuff, I just stuck to my diet Yeah!

Martina2 13.5.16

Today I went for a hair-cut 🙂 for the first time since my birthday last october…

Had about 7inches cut off. It is really weird I can still pull them back but they are very short compared to what I had for the last couple of years. And I have even the slightest hint of a fringe, just to be fancy 😉

But spring is the time for change, so I thought there is no time like the present, since I am trying to change a few aspects of my life, might as well do it right. And I must say that I really like it, am actually thinking of having them a bit shorter next time….

My head feels really light, and in this warm weather we have had for the last couple of days it´s a relief 🙂

Losing weight is going really well, I´ve lost over 28kg so far, and I feel great. The lovely sunshine outside is helping as well, makes me much more cheerful and everything looks fresh and green, flowers are blooming everywhere, the frogs are singing in our garden, lol, I don´t know if the neighbours like it, but I for one love it.

And there is loads of birds chirping happily in the garden, it is just so much fun to watch them jump around in the trees ans bushes, fighting over the bird seed 😀

I´ve ordered all the material I need for my course, it was quite expensive but I hope it is worth it. Can´t wait to get my hands on the first lot of paperwork, to see what I have to stitch 🙂

But I will have to be patient, and we have got a bank holiday weekend ahead of us, so I will get the chance to carry on with my mums birthday present. Haven´t done anything the last couple of days, because I had some problems, looks like I am allergic to pollen, my nose is constantly runny, I´m sneezing about a hundred times a day, and my eyes feel like I haven´t slept in days. They are really bloodshot.

So I will give them a rest, and try to get an early nights sleep. Tomorrow will be busy, baking some more bread, trying to give the place a good clean, so it looks nice for the weekend, and on sunday I will make another cake.

Good night my friends

Ok, I made the decision, I have booked myself into the online course for needlework. 😀

Took me a couple of days of thinking hard, but I think it is a good idea. It will keep me busy and learning new things is always  a good idea.

That will have me busy for about a year… Now I´m really looking forward to doing it, can´t wait until I get the paperwork!

I have been really busy these last couple of weeks, that´s why I haven´t done much writing lately. Losing weight is going quite well, slowly but it is still heading in the right direction, so I have started to move around more and managed to get a lot of things done that four months ago wouldn´t have been possible.

Seems that instead of losing muscles from sitting around so much, I have developed a bit more energy, so I can stand up longer and actually do a lot of the house-work, over the last week I´ve been cleaning nearly all the windows, managed to do some spring-cleaning and baking, so I am really happy and a lot more cheerful.

Still in a lot of pain, especially after the window-cleaning. I had to take some extra painkillers so I could hobble around a bit later.

The only thing I still avoid as much as possible is climbing stairs. So the cellar is still pretty much out of bounds and my poor mum is having to do all the washing. But luckily, we have got two strong boys in the house, and they can at least carry the washing up and down the stairs 😉

The last couple of days we had a bit of trouble around the house…. A pipe burst upstairs and Sunday night my mum had water leaking through the ceiling in three rooms.

So on Monday we had to empty and dismantle a wardrobe upstairs, so the plumber could try and find the burst pipe. Not very successfully I might add. The pipe was between the kitchen and bathroom and to change it would mean that we would have to rip up the whole floor of the kitchen and maybe some of the bedroom as well. But since my brother who lives up there hardly does any cooking in there we decided that that will not happen. Too bloody expensive, especially because he only moved in there last year and had all the floors fitted with new carpets.

Well, that´s the problem with a 40 year old house, always something to repair. Today the plumber turned up very early because he was supposed to free a blocked drain pipe. That was a mess!!! He ended up taking a shower when he opened up the pipe, and everything splashed all over the cellar floor and some shelves with christmas decorations. God the smell was awful, and it took the best of the morning to mop up the mess and change the pipes.

But at least it´s done now, and the smell is nearly gone…

Tomorrow will be a bit of a day of rest, we are going to meet some friends for a cup of coffee  in the morning, we deserve that after all the hassle the last couple of days I think 🙂

That´s all for now, I want to try and go to bed before midnight, though I´m cutting it a bit close as usual, haha,

Good night my friends

Today, I got my catalogue for the anual arts and crafts show I like to visit.

Usually in September, this year it will be at the end of October. No idea if I will actually be able to go this year.Last year it was a bit difficult because I had problems walking, and the only reason we went was that it was on my daughter´s birthday and I had promised her to go. And we had booked 2 workshops each which turned out to be a lot of fun. So I was glad that we went.

Looking through the catalogue, I remembered that many years ago I had been thinking of taking up classes for needlework, but at the time couldn´t afford the fees, so I went looking online to check if there where still courses I might be able to do and to afford.

The good thing is that there is a place where you can do online classes, and they are not too expensive either. They are held by a former student of the royal school of needlework in UK, so hopefully they should be quite good.

So now I am really tempted to try at least one course, to see if I could actually do something like that. Needlework was always something I loved to do, and basically the only thing I was ever any good at…

Not sure if I could do anything with it though, like trying to teach people how to do it, so I don´t exactly know if it would be worth it.

One of the problems is that even though the  courses aren´t that expensive, at least the beginners course isn´t, but the materials are quite pricey. So I will have to think about it a bit more before I make a decision.

I better sleep about it….

Good night friends

Busy weekend :)

The last weekend I was really busy, that´s why I didn´t write anything for the blog yesterday. After letting the A-Z challenge slide a little bit last week, I had to catch up, because I really wanted to finish it in time. And I did :), maybe not the most imaginative writing on earth, but at least I did finish something at last.

On Friday night I finished decorating the birthday cake, so it was ready for picking up on Saturday, than I did a bit of cleaning the house, and a lot of stitching, though my neck and shoulders where really hurting in the end, so I had to take frequent brakes.

But I think I am doing well, it looks very nice, and I am sure we will get it done in time for my mum´s birthday 🙂

Here´s what I´ve done so far:

I like the design very much, and I certainly hope my mum will as well.

Once I finished my bit, I will show you what my daughter has done so far, she has been very busy indeed.

I think this will not be my last experience with needlepaint, especially because I did buy another kit when we did a workshop last year. The problem was that when I bought it, I didn´t realize that it was an intermediate project, and it looked quite a bit challenging, but after trying a few new stitches I feel a little more comfortable giving it a go.

But first I want to finish my last cross-stitch project, there is not too much to do on it and I only put it on hold for my mum´s, because my daughter asked me if I could do it so she can work on her bachelor´s thesis.

One really good thing about needlework, or any hobby really that keeps your mind busy, while I do that, I don´t feel hungry at all, so not much chance of being naughty and eating things I shouldn´t lol.

Speaking of eating, I have been doing quite well regarding that, so it is going slowly but surely, I just need to stay patient and that I will do.

So, good night friends

sleep well,
